Hello! Welcome to The Troy Sew Shop! My name is Sarah and I live in Upstate New York with my husband and two children. I come from a long line of multi-generational Sewists. I grew up watching my mom sew elaborate holiday dresses and Halloween costumes for my sisters and I. For as long as I can remember, a needle and thread have been in my hands. Eventually, after mastering pajama pants, I began sewing evening wear for the many high school dances and proms. Additionally, I'm pretty sure I was the only person in my college dorm who brought a sewing machine with me. I couldn't live without it! My desire to become a creative entrepreneur lead me to a Bachelor's degree in Marketing. My desire for risk-aversion lead me to a Masters degree in Education; specifically, Family and Consumer Sciences (otherwise known as the Home Economics classes of the past).

As much as being a Sewist and Maker has been ingrained as a apart of my life, there have been several periods of time where my inspiration, creativity, and motivation to sew have gone through an ebb & flow. Recently, sewing has served as a therapeutic outlet for my mental health. By literally focusing on one stitch at a time, step-by-step, progress is made. Mindful sewing has the ability to lift me out of those dark anxiety rabbit holes. It has been a crucial strategy for my self-care journey. One that will, no doubt, continue to grow and change with time.

Throughout my sewing career, I have come across many people who say "I loved my high school Home Ec class, but I haven't sewn since" or "I inherited a sewing machine from my aunt and would love to learn how to use it". The Troy Sew Shop was created as a local, small business for everyone who has an interest in sewing, to come and meet them where they are at in their maker journey. I have a long-term vision for The Troy Sew Shop to be inclusive and sustainable. I would love for you to be apart of it with me. When can we get started?
