Who we are

Established in 2022, the Troy Sew Shop is owned and operated by Sarah Collen, a 4th generation Maker. Sewing and a love for our planet has shaped who she is as a person today. Now, more than ever before, the importance of being intentionally mindful with how we interact with our everyday environment is key to transform one’s life for the better. Learning how to hone this ancient craft to mend, alter and create takes time and patience. Being aware of the impact an individual and community can have collectively, practicing these skills regularly can ultimately create a larger movement for change.

Sarah’s love of the arts and fashion directed her to a Bachelors degree in marketing and a Masters degree in education, with an emphasis on Family and Consumer Sciences (the Home Economics of the past). Being risk-adverse in these modern times has led Sarah to start her traveling sew shop business of making sewing house calls.

The Troy Sew Shop’s mission is to provide sewing knowledge that leads to empowering people with self-reliance, while focusing on mindful and environmentally-friendly practices. Until the Troy Sew Shop finds a forever brick and mortar home, we will continue to provide services through unique ways in the community.
